Alapkövetkezmény

Alapkövetkezmény is a Hungarian term formed from alap (base, fundamental) and következmény (consequence). It denotes the primary or fundamental consequence that follows from a premise, rule, action, or principle. The term is used in academic Hungarian texts across disciplines such as logic, philosophy, law, and policy analysis to distinguish the main outcome from secondary or exceptional consequences.

In logic and argumentation, the alapkövetkezmény is the direct inference or conclusion that necessarily follows from the given premises under the applicable rule of inference. In normative disciplines, it refers to the default or most important legal, contractual, or procedural result of applying a rule. The concept emphasizes the baseline effect rather than contingent or conditional results.

Examples: If a contract requires delivery upon payment, the alapkövetkezmény of timely payment is the obligation to transfer the goods. If a code of conduct is violated, the alapkövetkezmény may be a sanction prescribed in the rule. In policy analysis, the alapkövetkezmény of implementing a reform may be the improvement of efficiency, while other consequences may occur only under certain conditions.
