Ajamääratluste

Ajamääratlused is a term used in Estonian grammar to refer to adverbs of time. These words or phrases indicate when an action occurred, is occurring, or will occur. They function to provide temporal context to verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Common examples include words like "täna" (today), "eile" (yesterday), "homme" (tomorrow), "praegu" (now), "hiljem" (later), "kohe" (immediately), and "alati" (always).

Ajamääratlused can appear in various positions within a sentence, though they often precede the word they modify or are placed at the beginning or end of a clause for emphasis. They are crucial for conveying precise meaning and understanding the sequence of events. For instance, in the sentence "Ma lähen homme kinno" (I am going to the cinema tomorrow), "homme" specifies the time of the action.

Beyond single words, longer phrases can also serve as ajamääratlused, such as "eelmisel nädalal" (last week) or "pärastlõunal" (in the afternoon). These temporal adverbs help to enrich sentences and provide a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding an event.
