Acusticus

Acusticus is a Latin adjective meaning “pertaining to hearing or acoustics.” In modern Romance languages it survives in forms such as acustico (Italian, Portuguese) and acústico (Spanish). In English-language scholarship, acusticus typically appears only in Latinized or historical contexts rather than as a current technical term.

Historical usage in anatomy: In older Latin texts, acusticus occurs in compound names referring to ear-related structures. A common example is nervus acusticus, a designation once used for the auditory nerve; today the same structure is identified as nervus vestibulocochlearis (cranial nerve VIII).

Other uses: In taxonomy or zoological nomenclature, acusticus can appear as aLatin epithet meaning “of hearing” or “acoustic,” but such usage is rare and not part of standard modern nomenclature.
