Abugidaskript

Abugidaskript is a term used in theoretical discussions of writing systems to denote a prototypical abugida, a class of scripts in which each grapheme represents a consonant accompanied by an inherent vowel. The name blends "abugida" with "skript," indicating a writing system designed to illustrate abugida principles.

In the abugidaskript model, base consonant symbols carry an inherent vowel, typically /a/. Diacritics or secondary marks modify the vowel for other syllables, yielding ka, ki, ku, ke, ko, etc. Some variants place vowels as marks on the consonant; others provide independent vowel letters for initial vowels.

Abugidaskript is not a single historical script but a conceptual framework used in linguistic pedagogy, conlang design, and computational modeling to study orthographic depth, syllable structure, and vowel alternations. In practice, real-world abugidas such as Devanagari, Bengali, and Ethiopic embody the general principles described by the abugidaskript model.

The term does not imply a universal or standardized alphabet; it is a neutral shorthand to discuss abugida properties.
