Absorbering

Absorbering is a term used in some technical contexts to describe the process of absorbing or the state of acting as an absorber. It is not an established term in mainstream science; standard usage typically employs absorption (the noun), absorbing (the verb), or absorptance for quantitative measures.

In physics and optics, absorbering would pertain to attenuation of electromagnetic radiation as it interacts with matter. The fraction absorbed depends on the material’s absorptivity, thickness, and the wavelength, and is quantified by the absorption coefficient or absorptance, with spectral features described by an absorption spectrum.
