Abhasia

Abkhazia is a de facto independent republic located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, in the northwestern part of the Caucasus Mountains. Its territory is disputed, with the Republic of Georgia claiming it as an autonomous republic. Abkhazia declared its independence from Georgia in 1992, following a brief but devastating war. The region has a long and complex history, having been influenced by various empires and cultures throughout the centuries.

The landscape of Abkhazia is characterized by a diverse geography, ranging from subtropical coastlines to high mountain peaks. Its economy relies heavily on tourism, agriculture, and to a lesser extent, industry. The capital city is Sukhumi, a popular resort town. The Abkhaz people are the titular ethnic group, but the population also includes Georgians, Russians, Armenians, and others. Abkhaz is the official language, with Russian also widely spoken.

Following the 1992-1993 war, Abkhazia established its own government and institutions. However, its independence is recognized by only a few UN member states, primarily Russia. Most of the international community considers Abkhazia to be part of Georgia. The political status of Abkhazia remains a significant geopolitical issue, with ongoing efforts towards resolution and reconciliation. The region has experienced periods of relative stability and economic development since the end of the conflict, though challenges persist.
