ADSLVDSL2

ADSL2 (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line 2) and ADSL2+ are broadband internet access technologies that use existing copper telephone lines to deliver higher speeds than standard ADSL. ADSL2 offers download speeds of up to 12 Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 1 Mbit/s. ADSL2+ doubles these speeds, providing download speeds of up to 24 Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 1 Mbit/s.

VDSL2 (Very-high-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line 2) is a further evolution of DSL technology, offering significantly faster speeds over shorter distances. VDSL2 can achieve download speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s when used in symmetric mode, or asymmetric speeds up to 200 Mbit/s download and 100 Mbit/s upload.

The primary advantage of these technologies is their ability to leverage existing telephone infrastructure, reducing the need for new cable installations. However, their performance is highly dependent on the distance from the telephone exchange or local cabinet. The further a user is from the exchange, the slower the connection speeds will be. This is due to signal degradation over copper lines.

ADSL2, ADSL2+, and VDSL2 are all part of the broader DSL family of technologies. They differ in their achievable speeds and the distances over which those speeds can be maintained. VDSL2 represents the highest performance within this category of copper-based broadband, often used in fiber-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) deployments where fiber optic cable runs to a local street cabinet, and then copper lines connect to individual homes.
