4Kopløsning refers to a display resolution of approximately 4000 pixels horizontally. The most common implementation is UHD (Ultra High Definition), which has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This is four times the number of pixels found in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). The increased pixel count results in sharper images with finer detail, particularly noticeable on larger screens.

The development of 4K resolution is part of the ongoing trend in display technology to enhance visual fidelity. Beyond UHD, there is also DCI 4K, a cinema standard with a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels, used primarily in professional film production and exhibition. The adoption of 4K has been driven by advancements in display manufacturing, increased processing power in devices, and the availability of 4K content from streaming services and physical media.

While 4K offers a significant improvement in image quality, its benefits are most pronounced when viewed on displays of sufficient size and at appropriate viewing distances. For smaller screens or when viewed from afar, the difference between 4K and lower resolutions like 1080p may be less apparent. The transition to 4K has also necessitated improvements in bandwidth for streaming and storage for digital content.
