Întrirea

Întrirea is a Romanian noun that denotes the act of entering or admission. It is formed from the verb a intra (to enter) with the nominalizing suffix -ire. In contemporary Romanian, intrare is the more common term for “entry,” while întrirea appears chiefly in literary or ceremonial contexts and in some religious texts. The word can also appear in fixed expressions referring to ceremonial entrances or the formal introduction of a person or thing.

In religious usage, întrirea is encountered in the name of liturgical feasts that describe a sacred entry. The most well-known is the Feast of Intrarea Maicii Domnului în Biserică, which translates as the Entrance of the Mother of God into the Church (also rendered Intrarea Maicii Domnului în Templu in some traditions). This feast commemorates the Virgin Mary’s presentation as a child in the Temple and her entry into the Temple. It is observed by Romanian Orthodox communities on November 21 in most calendars, with calendar differences affecting some jurisdictions.

Etymologically, întrirea is a formal or archaic variant of the more common intrare, reflecting its use in more solemn or ceremonial language. The term remains largely restricted to specific religious or ceremonial contexts in modern usage, while intrare or other synonyms are preferred in everyday language when referring to a generic entrance.
