Áramveszteségek refers to electrical energy losses that occur within a power system. These losses are an inherent part of transmitting and distributing electrical power from the generation source to the end consumer. The primary causes of áramveszteségek are related to the resistance of the conductors and the characteristics of the electrical equipment used.

In transmission and distribution lines, energy is lost as heat due to the electrical resistance of the wires. This phenomenon is known as Joule heating or I²R losses, where I is the current flowing through the conductor and R is its resistance. Higher currents and higher resistances lead to greater energy dissipation. Another contributing factor can be corona discharge, which occurs when the electric field around high-voltage conductors becomes strong enough to ionize the surrounding air, leading to energy loss.

Within transformers, áramveszteségek manifest in several ways. Core losses, also known as iron losses, occur due to the alternating magnetic field in the transformer's core. These include hysteresis losses and eddy current losses. Copper losses, similar to I²R losses in wires, occur in the windings of the transformer due to their electrical resistance. Mechanical losses, such as friction and windage in rotating machinery like generators and motors, also contribute to overall energy losses.
