Záróizom is the Hungarian term for sphincter muscles. These are circular muscles that surround an opening or orifice in the body and control its closure and opening. When the sphincter muscle contracts, it closes the opening; when it relaxes, the opening widens, allowing substances to pass through. Sphincters are crucial for regulating the passage of materials within various systems of the body.

There are several important sphincter muscles in the human anatomy. The anal sphincters, both internal and external, control the exit of feces from the rectum. The pyloric sphincter is located at the junction of the stomach and the small intestine, regulating the flow of partially digested food into the duodenum. The lower esophageal sphincter (also known as the cardiac sphincter) prevents stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus, thus preventing heartburn and acid reflux. Other sphincters are found in the urinary tract, regulating urine flow.

The proper functioning of sphincter muscles is vital for maintaining bodily functions and preventing the uncontrolled release of waste products or the backflow of substances. Conditions affecting sphincter muscles can lead to incontinence, reflux disorders, or other health issues. Medical interventions, ranging from medication to surgery, may be employed to address problems related to sphincter dysfunction.
