zenuwstof
Zenuwstof, also known as nerve agent, is a class of organic chemicals that disrupt the mechanisms by which nerves transfer information from one nerve to another or to a muscle. The majority of nerve agents are manufactured for military purposes as chemical weapons. They are particularly potent, with the ability to cause overstimulation of the body's nerves, leading to uncontrolled muscle contractions. This can manifest in a variety of symptoms, including difficulty breathing, drooling, vomiting, and seizures, ultimately resulting in death if not treated. Common examples include sarin, VX, and tabun. Exposure can occur through inhalation, ingestion, or skin absorption. The initial effects can be rapid, depending on the agent's volatility and the route of exposure. Medical treatment typically involves administration of antidotes such as atropine and pralidoxime to counteract the effects of the nerve agent on the nervous system. Due to their extreme toxicity and potential for widespread harm, the production and possession of nerve agents are prohibited by international treaties like the Chemical Weapons Convention.
