yskärefleksin
Yskärefleksi, also known as the lacrimal reflex, is a physiological response that occurs when the eye is stimulated by an irritant. This reflex is mediated by the trigeminal nerve, which is the fifth cranial nerve. When the eye is exposed to a foreign substance, such as dust, smoke, or chemical irritants, the sensory receptors in the cornea and conjunctiva are activated. These receptors send signals to the trigeminal ganglion, where the information is processed and transmitted to the lacrimal gland via the facial nerve. The lacrimal gland then responds by secreting lacrimal fluid, which flows through the lacrimal ducts and into the nasal cavity, helping to wash away the irritant and protect the eye. This reflex is an important mechanism for maintaining the health and hygiene of the eye.
