vooliduravus

Vooliduravus is a genus of extinct birds that lived during the Paleogene period, approximately 25 million years ago. The name "Vooliduravus" comes from the Latin words "volare," meaning "to fly," and "durare," meaning "to endure." This refers to the bird's ability to fly and its likelihood of being able to endure various environments.

Fossils of Vooliduravus were discovered in Turkey, where the bird's remains have been found in association with other ancient species. Initial studies suggested that Vooliduravus was a member of the family Cluniavis, a group of birds known for their austral congener, Luisavis. However, more recent classifications have placed it in the family Glareolidae, which includes current species such as the pratincoles and courser birds.

The physical appearance of Vooliduravus is not well documented, but it is believed to have had a length of around 35 cm, with a distinctive head shape and plumage likely to have been characterized by a mix of speckles, stripes, and overall intense coloration. In terms of beak size and skull structure, there is limited information about the comparisons with living relatives.

Because it lived in the Paleogene period, very little scientific data are available about the life cycle and habitats of Vooliduravus. One observation is that it was living in the lush lowland vegetation of Anatolia at the time of its presence.
