Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small cell fragments that are essential for blood clotting. They help to stop bleeding by forming a plug at the site of an injury. Platelets are produced in the bone marrow and have a lifespan of about 7 to 10 days.

The balance and proper functioning of these blood elements are vital for maintaining overall health.
