Szcintillátoranyag is a material that emits light when struck by ionizing radiation. This phenomenon, known as scintillation, is utilized in various scientific and technological applications, particularly in radiation detection. When high-energy particles or photons interact with a scintillator, they excite the atoms or molecules within the material. As these excited states return to their ground state, they release energy in the form of visible or ultraviolet light photons.

The efficiency and spectral characteristics of the emitted light depend on the type of scintillator material. Common scintillators include inorganic crystals like sodium iodide (NaI(Tl)) and cesium iodide (CsI(Tl)), organic materials such as plastic scintillators (e.g., polyvinyltoluene doped with fluors), and liquid scintillators (solutions of organic fluors in a solvent).
