Sunspider is a common name used for a group of arachnids belonging to the order Solifugae. These creatures are also known as solifuges, camel spiders, or wind scorpions. Despite their names, they are not true spiders or scorpions, as they belong to a separate order. Sunspiders are characterized by their large, powerful chelicerae (jaws), which can be as long as their bodies. They are typically found in arid and semi-arid regions of the world, including Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia and the Americas.

Sunspiders are predatory and primarily feed on insects, other arthropods, and small vertebrates. They are fast-moving and possess excellent eyesight. Their bodies are covered in dense hairs, which likely aid in sensory perception and protection from the elements. Unlike true spiders, sunspiders do not produce silk. Their reproduction involves direct sperm transfer from the male to the female. There are over 1000 described species of sunspiders, varying in size and coloration. While their appearance can be intimidating, most species are harmless to humans, though their powerful bite can be painful.
