Solidifisering, also known as solidification or freezing, is the process by which a liquid changes into a solid. This transformation occurs when the temperature of the liquid falls below its freezing point. At this temperature, the kinetic energy of the molecules within the liquid decreases to a point where the intermolecular forces become strong enough to hold them in a fixed, ordered structure.

The freezing point of a substance is a characteristic property and is dependent on pressure. For pure substances, solidification typically occurs at a constant temperature. During the process, latent heat of fusion is released as the substance transitions from liquid to solid. This means that even though heat is being removed, the temperature of the substance may remain constant until the entire liquid has solidified.

It is fundamental to the formation of ice from water, the solidification of molten rock to form igneous rocks, and the casting of metals in manufacturing. The rate of cooling can significantly influence the microstructure of the resulting solid, affecting properties such as strength and hardness.
