Sleipnir is a mythical steed in Norse mythology, notable for being the magical, eight-legged horse of the god Odin. He is described as the fastest and most powerful horse in all the realms. Sleipnir is the offspring of the god Loki and the stallion Svaðilfari. This unusual parentage is a result of Loki's transformation into a mare to distract Svaðilfari, who was helping the giant who was building the walls of Asgard.

The story of Sleipnir's birth is recounted in the Prose Edda. After the giants' walls were built, the gods realized they had been tricked. Loki, in his mare form, was lured away by Svaðilfari, and as a consequence, conceived Sleipnir. When Sleipnir was born, he was gifted to Odin by Loki.

Sleipnir is depicted as a magnificent creature, capable of traveling across land, sea, and air, and even between worlds. His eight legs are said to enable him to traverse any terrain with exceptional speed and grace. Odin rides Sleipnir on his journeys, including his frequent trips to the underworld, Hel.
