The Situationist International was a revolutionary Marxist organization founded in 1957. It emerged from the merger of the International Movement for an Imaginist Bauhaus, the International Surrealist Movement, and the Psychogeographical Committee of London. Its primary aim was to dismantle capitalist society and its pervasive cultural alienation. The Situationists believed that everyday life under capitalism had become a spectacle, where authentic human experience was replaced by prefabricated images and commodities.
