seychas

Seychas is a transliteration of the Russian word сейчас, meaning "now" or "at the present moment." In English-language writing, it is sometimes used to render the Russian term in plain text without Cyrillic script.

The word сейчас is etymologically formed from the old phrase сей часъ, literally "this hour." Over time the pronunciation and spelling evolved into the modern form сейчас. The combination of the demonstrative pronoun сей (this) and час (hour) reflects its original sense of indicating the current moment.

In contemporary Russian, сейчас is a common adverb used to denote the present moment. It can also function in phrases that indicate immediacy, such as сейчас же ("right now" or "immediately"). Depending on context, it may refer to a very near future as well as to the immediate present, and it is widely used in everyday speech, writing, and media.

When rendered in Latin script, transliterations vary. Seichas and seychas are among the common forms, used in dictionaries, language-learning materials, and online communication by non-Russian speakers. The term is distinct from words for “nowadays” or “at the present time” in Russian, such as в настоящее время, which convey a broader temporal scope.
