Prosessijäähdyttimet, known in English as process chillers, are essential pieces of industrial equipment designed to remove heat from various processes. They are closed-loop systems that circulate a coolant, typically water or a glycol mixture, through a cooling circuit. This coolant absorbs heat generated by a manufacturing process, such as injection molding, extrusion, or chemical reactions, and then transports it away to be dissipated.

The primary function of a prosessijäähdytin is to maintain precise temperature control for industrial applications. This precise temperature regulation is crucial for ensuring product quality, preventing equipment damage, and optimizing production efficiency. Fluctuations in process temperature can lead to defects in manufactured goods, reduced operational lifespan of machinery, and increased energy consumption.

These chillers work by employing a refrigeration cycle. A compressor increases the pressure and temperature of a refrigerant. This hot gas then passes through a condenser, where it is cooled and condenses into a liquid. The liquid refrigerant then flows through an expansion valve, where its pressure and temperature drop significantly. This cold liquid enters an evaporator, where it absorbs heat from the process fluid, causing the refrigerant to evaporate. The cooled process fluid is then recirculated back to the application, while the refrigerant returns to the compressor to begin the cycle anew.
