Planetbildning means the process of planetary formation, specifically the formation of planets in our solar system. This process is thought to have occurred around 4.6 billion years ago, shortly after the formation of the solar nebula, the cloud of gas and dust that would eventually collapse to form the Sun and the planets.

The planetbildning process is believed to have occurred as follows: first, the solar nebula collapsed under its own gravity, with denser regions of gas and dust forming the basis for the planets. As the nebula collapsed, it began to spin faster and faster, causing it to flatten into a disk shape. This disk, known as the protoplanetary disk, was the source of the material that would eventually form the planets.

As the planets began to form, they underwent a process called accretion, where small particles of gas and dust collided and merged, growing larger and larger until they became small, rocky worlds. These early worlds were called planetesimals, and they continued to grow through continued accretion, eventually forming the protoplanets we find today.

Over time, the protoplanets underwent a process of differentiation, where the heavier elements such as iron and nickel sank to the center of the planet, while the lighter elements such as silicates rose to the surface. This process created the dense iron cores and rocky mantles we see in the planets of our solar system today.

The planetbildning process was a complex and still not fully understood process, but it is thought to have occurred over millions of years, shaping the planets of our solar system into the diverse and complex worlds we see today.
