pacemakerképességet is a Hungarian term that translates to "pacemaker capability" or "pacemaking ability." It refers to the inherent ability of certain cells or tissues within the heart to generate electrical impulses that initiate and regulate the heart's rhythm.

In healthy individuals, the primary pacemaker of the heart is the sinoatrial (SA) node, located in the upper right atrium. The SA node possesses specialized cells that spontaneously depolarize, creating an electrical signal. This signal then spreads through the atria, causing them to contract, and subsequently travels to the atrioventricular (AV) node, which delays the impulse slightly before transmitting it to the ventricles. The coordinated spread of these impulses ensures the efficient pumping of blood.

While the SA node is the dominant pacemaker, other parts of the heart, such as the AV node and even the Purkinje fibers in the ventricles, have intrinsic pacemakerképességet. These subsidiary pacemakers have slower intrinsic rates and normally do not exert control because the faster rate of the SA node suppresses them through a phenomenon called overdrive suppression. However, if the SA node fails or its conduction is blocked, these secondary pacemakers can take over, albeit at a slower heart rate, to maintain some level of cardiac function. This ability of secondary pacemakers to initiate a heartbeat when the primary pacemaker is compromised is crucial for survival. Conditions that impair the SA node's function, such as sick sinus syndrome, can lead to a reliance on these subsidiary pacemakers.
