Ozmózisállapota, often translated as osmotic state or osmotic condition, refers to the balance of water across a semipermeable membrane within a biological or chemical system. It describes the net movement of water molecules from an area of higher water concentration (lower solute concentration) to an area of lower water concentration (higher solute concentration). This movement occurs because of the difference in water potential, which is influenced by both solute concentration and pressure.

In biological contexts, osmosis is crucial for maintaining cell volume and function. For instance, when a plant cell is placed in pure water (a hypotonic solution), water enters the cell, causing it to swell and become turgid.
