The Nordiques, officially the Quebec Nordiques, were a professional ice hockey team based in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. They competed in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 to 1979 and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1995. The franchise was founded as a WHA member and joined the NHL during the WHA–NHL merger in 1979.
