It is soluble in organic solvents like ethanol and ether. 1-naphthylamine is used in the synthesis of dyes, pigments, and agrochemicals. It can also be found as a metabolite in some biological processes.

2-naphthylamine, also known as beta-naphthylamine, is a colorless crystalline solid. It is less soluble in water than 1-naphthylamine. Historically, 2-naphthylamine was used in the dye industry, particularly for the production of azo dyes. However, it is now recognized as a potent human carcinogen and its industrial use has been severely restricted or banned in many countries due to its association with bladder cancer. Exposure to 2-naphthylamine poses significant health risks.
