Myófibrillur are the microscopic, rod-like structures that make up the bulk of a muscle cell's cytoplasm. They are the fundamental contractile units of skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle tissue. Within a sarcomere, myófibrils are organized into two main types of protein filaments: actin and myosin.
