Mitta yksiköille refers to units of measurement in Finnish. These are fundamental concepts used to quantify physical properties such as length, mass, time, temperature, and electric current. The most widely adopted system of measurement globally is the International System of Units, or SI, which is also the standard in Finland.

The SI system is based on seven base units: the meter (m) for length, the kilogram (kg) for mass, the second (s) for time, the ampere (A) for electric current, the kelvin (K) for thermodynamic temperature, the mole (mol) for amount of substance, and the candela (cd) for luminous intensity. From these base units, derived units are formed for other physical quantities. For example, the unit of force, the newton (N), is derived from base units as kg⋅m/s².

In everyday use and in scientific contexts, prefixes are often employed to denote multiples or submultiples of SI units. Common prefixes include kilo- (k) for 1000, milli- (m) for 1/1000, and centi- (c) for 1/100. For instance, a kilometer is 1000 meters, and a centimeter is 1/100th of a meter.

While SI units are standard, other systems of measurement, such as the imperial system (used in countries like the United States), also exist. However, for international communication, trade, and scientific research, the consistent use of SI units is crucial for clarity and accuracy. Understanding and correctly applying these units of measurement is essential across various disciplines and practical applications.
