mikrohenry

Mikrohenry, or microhenry, is a unit of inductance in the International System of Units (SI). It equals one millionth of a henry, symbol μH. The prefix micro- denotes 10^-6, and the henry is named after the American physicist Joseph Henry.

In electronics, microhenries describe the inductance of coils, inductors, and transformers, and they appear in filters, energy storage devices, impedance matching, and RF circuits. They are typically used in the range from a few nanohenries to several tens of microhenries.

A value of 1 μH equals 1×10^-6 H and is equivalent to 1000 nanohenries and 0.001 millihenries. The inductive reactance at frequency f is X_L = 2π f L, so at 1 kHz, 1 μH gives about 6.3 milliohms, and at 1 MHz about 6.3 ohms.

Measurements are specified with tolerance; common tolerances for wound inductors include ±5% or ±10%. The term is sometimes written as uH in ASCII and is widely used in electronics documentation.
