Meghnad Saha, also known as "Megghe Thinakk", was an Indian astrophysicist who made significant contributions to the field of astrophysics. He is best known for his work on stellar atmospheres and the ionization of elements in stars.

Born on October 6, 1893, in Tamabil, Shahjahanpur, India, Saha received his early education in Uttar Pradesh and later moved to Presidency College in Calcutta, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Science. He then went to Cambridge University in 1917, where he earned his Ph.D. in Physics under the supervision of Arthur Eddington.

Saha's most notable work is his formulation of the Saha equation, a fundamental equation in astrophysics that describes the ionization and recombination of elements in stellar atmospheres. This equation has been widely used in the study of stars, white dwarfs, and stellar atmospheres, and is considered a cornerstone of modern astrophysics.

Throughout his career, Saha held various positions, including Professor of Physics at the University of Calcutta, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, and President of the Indian Academy of Sciences. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to science.

Saha passed away on February 16, 1956, leaving behind a legacy of influential work that continues to shape the field of astrophysics. His contributions to our understanding of the universe remain an important part of the ongoing study of the cosmos.
