Medsmält is a term that refers to the process by which a solid substance transitions into a liquid state due to an increase in temperature. This phenomenon is a fundamental concept in chemistry and physics, illustrating a change in the physical properties of matter. When a solid is heated, its constituent particles gain kinetic energy and begin to vibrate more intensely. As the temperature continues to rise, these vibrations eventually overcome the intermolecular forces holding the particles in a fixed, rigid structure, allowing them to move more freely past one another. This transition from a solid to a liquid is known as melting, and the temperature at which this occurs for a specific substance is called its melting point. The melting point is a characteristic property of a pure substance and can be used for identification purposes.
