Myokarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle, known as the myocardium. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests to detect inflammation or cardiac enzymes, and sometimes imaging tests like an echocardiogram or cardiac MRI. In some instances, a biopsy of the heart muscle may be necessary for a definitive diagnosis. Treatment strategies are aimed at addressing the underlying cause and managing symptoms to prevent complications. This may involve medications to reduce inflammation, treat infections, or improve heart function. Rest is often recommended to reduce the heart's workload.
