Lämpösiirtosääntöjen is a Finnish term that translates to "heat transfer rules" or "rules of heat transfer." These rules describe the fundamental principles governing how thermal energy moves from one place to another. The three primary mechanisms of heat transfer are conduction, convection, and radiation.

Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between particles. In solids, this occurs through vibrations and collisions of atoms or molecules. In liquids and gases, it also involves collisions between these particles. Materials that conduct heat well, such as metals, are called good thermal conductors, while materials that resist heat flow, like wood or foam, are called thermal insulators.

This movement can be natural, driven by density differences caused by temperature variations (e.g., warm air rising), or forced, by external means like a fan or pump. Convection is responsible for phenomena like weather patterns and the heating of rooms by radiators.

Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves, primarily in the infrared spectrum. Unlike conduction and convection, radiation does not require a medium and can travel through a vacuum. The sun's heat reaching Earth is a prime example of radiative heat transfer. All objects above absolute zero temperature emit thermal radiation.
