lisääntymislevyjen
Lisääntymislevyjen refers to the growth plates in bones. These are areas of hyaline cartilage located near the ends of long bones in children and adolescents. They are responsible for the lengthwise growth of bones. During childhood and adolescence, cells in the growth plate actively divide and ossify, causing the bone to lengthen. Once a person reaches skeletal maturity, typically in late adolescence or early adulthood, the growth plates undergo a process called closure, where the cartilage is replaced by bone. At this point, bone lengthening stops. Injuries to the growth plates can have significant consequences, potentially leading to limb length discrepancies or deformities. These injuries are more common in young, active individuals. Medical imaging techniques are often used to assess the status and health of growth plates.
