The lümfisüsteemil, or lymphatic system in English, is a vital network of tissues and organs that helps rid the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. It plays a crucial role in the immune system by transporting lymph, a fluid containing white blood cells, throughout the body. This system includes the spleen, thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, and lymphatic vessels.

Lymphatic vessels act like a drainage system, collecting excess fluid called lymph from tissues and returning it to the bloodstream. Lymph nodes, small bean-shaped organs, filter the lymph, trapping harmful substances like bacteria and viruses. White blood cells within the lymph nodes then attack these invaders, preventing infection. The spleen, a larger organ, filters blood and removes old or damaged red blood cells, also housing white blood cells.

The thymus, located in the chest, is essential for the development of T-cells, a type of white blood cell critical for cell-mediated immunity. Tonsils, located in the throat, are a first line of defense against inhaled or ingested pathogens. Together, these components work to maintain fluid balance, absorb fats from the digestive system, and protect the body from disease. A properly functioning lümfisüsteemil is therefore fundamental to overall health and immunity.
