Lõikekujud refers to geometric shapes formed by the intersection of a plane with a solid, typically a cone. These shapes are fundamental in geometry and have been studied for centuries. The type of lõikekuju obtained depends on the angle of the plane relative to the cone's axis.

When a plane intersects a cone, it can create several distinct shapes. If the plane is perpendicular to the cone's axis and does not pass through the apex, the resulting shape is a circle. If the plane is parallel to one of the cone's slant heights and intersects the cone along its side, the lõikekuju is a parabola.

If the plane intersects both halves of a double cone (or a single cone at an angle that cuts both sides) and is not parallel to the axis, the resulting shape is a hyperbola. When a plane intersects a cone at an angle that cuts through the base and the side of the cone, and is not perpendicular to the axis, it forms an ellipse. A special case of the ellipse is when the plane passes through the apex and is not perpendicular to the axis, resulting in a point or a line depending on the orientation.

These shapes – circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas – are collectively known as conic sections. They have numerous applications in various fields, including physics (e.g., orbital mechanics), engineering (e.g., lens design), and astronomy. Understanding lõikekujud is crucial for comprehending these applications and for advanced mathematical study.
