Klimaatgassen, also known as greenhouse gases, are gases in Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. Methane is emitted during the production and transport of coal, oil, and natural gas, as well as during the raising of livestock. Nitrous oxide is released from agricultural and industrial activities, as well as during combustion processes. Fluorinated gases are synthetic gases used in various industrial applications, including refrigeration and air conditioning.

The increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has led to a rise in global temperatures, melting polar ice caps, and rising sea levels. These changes have significant impacts on the environment, including the loss of biodiversity, more frequent and severe weather events, and changes in agricultural productivity. Addressing the issue of climate change requires reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a combination of measures, such as transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and adopting sustainable land-use practices. International agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, aim to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
