Juurihiuksilla is a Finnish term that translates to "root hair" in English. Root hairs are microscopic outgrowths of epidermal cells of a plant root. They significantly increase the surface area of the root, which is crucial for efficient absorption of water and minerals from the soil. These specialized structures are typically found in the maturation zone of the root, behind the zone of elongation.

The cell wall of a root hair is permeable to water and dissolved ions, allowing for easy passage into the root.
