intracanaliculáris
Intracanalicular refers to something situated or occurring within a canaliculus. A canaliculus is a small, typically microscopic, canal or duct. In biological contexts, canaliculi are found in various tissues and organs, serving as channels for the passage of fluids, cells, or other substances. For example, in bone tissue, osteocytes communicate with each other and with the periosteum through a network of microscopic canaliculi. These tiny channels contain cytoplasmic extensions of the osteocytes and are filled with interstitial fluid. In the liver, bile canaliculi are small channels formed by hepatocytes that collect bile secreted by these cells. In the lacrimal system of the eye, the lacrimal canaliculi are small ducts that drain tears from the puncta into the lacrimal sac. Therefore, an intracanalicular process or structure would be one that is located inside one of these small tubular passages. For instance, a blockage or an infection occurring within the lumen of a canaliculus would be described as intracanalicular. The specific meaning of intracanalicular is thus dependent on the context of the particular canaliculus being referred to.
