Ilmaaineen is the genitive singular form of ilmaaine, a Finnish compound noun meaning “an air substance” or “substance in air.” The term is used mainly in scientific and regulatory contexts to refer to substances present in the atmosphere, including pollutants, reactive gases, and particulate matter, as well as other airborne constituents.
