Hudutslagenhet is a Swedish military unit that was introduced in the 18th century. The term Hudut is believed to be derived from the same root as the word "hud", meaning skin or leather. However, the exact origin of the term is not well-documented.

During the 18th century, the concept of Hudut began to take shape in Swedish military units. Essentially, a Hudut was a type of cordon or a screening checkpoint in the context of military operations. This cordon would typically consist of troops positioned to protect a specific area, road, or function. The task was often to delay the enemy's advance or screen friendly forces.

Throughout Swedish military history, Hudut units have been used in various formations and types. Over time, the functions of Hudut slagenhet became more specialized and refined. Additionally, they were sometimes formed around other units or even reserve formations.

During times of war, it was common for residual civilian populations to become trapped between different Hudut. Imprisonment without trial was the common practice for any captured personnel caught by the enemy within a cordon. Strategic defenders would deliberately clear enemy forces in advance to minimize exposure to such units. However, it has also been used as a means to harass and bolster defenses prior to attacks. Many Swedish historical military battles have involved use of these detachments throughout the years.
