Hologics is a term that can refer to several related concepts, primarily within the fields of optics and imaging. At its core, holography is a technique that enables a light field, scattered or reflected by an object, to be recorded and later reconstructed when the recording medium is illuminated appropriately. This reconstructed light field is a three-dimensional image of the original object, known as a hologram.

The process of creating a hologram involves splitting a laser beam into two. One beam, the object beam, illuminates the object and is then scattered towards the recording medium. The second beam, the reference beam, is directed straight to the recording medium. The interference pattern between these two beams on the recording medium is what constitutes the hologram. When this recorded interference pattern is illuminated by a similar reference beam, it diffracts light to recreate the original object beam, thus producing a three-dimensional image.

Hologics, in a broader sense, can encompass the technology and applications derived from holography. This includes various types of holograms such as transmission holograms, reflection holograms, and digital holograms. Applications of hologics are diverse, ranging from security features on credit cards and currency to artistic displays, data storage, and even potential uses in medical imaging and microscopy.
