hoftebenskammen
The hoftebenskammen, also known as the iliac crest, is the prominent upper ridge of the pelvis. It is the most anterior part of the ilium, one of the three bones that fuse to form the hip bone. The iliac crest forms the upper border of the greater sciatic notch and provides attachment for several muscles, including the abdominal muscles like the external oblique and internal oblique, as well as the quadratus lumborum and the gluteal muscles. Its distinctive curved shape is easily palpable on the lateral side of the abdomen. In anatomy, the iliac crest serves as an important landmark for surgical procedures and anatomical reference. It is also a common site for bone marrow aspiration and biopsy due to its accessible location and the presence of hematopoietic bone marrow. The prominence of the iliac crest can vary between individuals.
