Hemodialüüsiaparaadid are medical devices used in hemodialysis, a treatment for kidney failure. These machines function as artificial kidneys, filtering waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the patient's own kidneys are unable to do so. The core components of a hemodialysis machine include a pump to control blood flow, a dialyzer (artificial kidney) where the actual filtration takes place, and various sensors and monitoring systems to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

During hemodialysis, blood is drawn from the patient's body, typically through an arteriovenous fistula or graft, and passed through the dialyzer. The dialyzer contains a semipermeable membrane that separates the blood from a special dialysis fluid called dialysate. Waste products like urea and creatinine, as well as excess electrolytes and water, move from the blood across the membrane into the dialysate, which is then discarded. The cleaned blood is then returned to the patient.

Modern hemodialysis machines are highly sophisticated, offering precise control over parameters such as blood flow rate, dialysate composition and flow rate, and ultrafiltration (water removal). They also incorporate safety features like air detectors, pressure sensors, and conductivity monitors to prevent complications. These machines can be used in hospitals, dialysis centers, and increasingly, in patients' homes, allowing for greater flexibility and convenience in managing chronic kidney disease.
