Halfparallels are a geometric concept that arises in the study of polyhedra and their duals. A halfparallel is defined as a pair of edges in a polyhedron, or in a general polytope, that are parallel and lie on opposite faces. Specifically, if an edge $e_1$ lies on a face $F_1$ and an edge $e_2$ lies on a face $F_2$, and $e_1$ is parallel to $e_2$, and $F_1$ and $F_2$ are in some sense opposite or parallel, then $e_1$ and $e_2$ can form a halfparallel pair.

The concept of halfparallels is particularly relevant when considering the relationship between a polyhedron and its dual. The dual of a polyhedron is formed by connecting the centers of adjacent faces. In many cases, the edges of a polyhedron have corresponding halfparallels in its dual, and vice versa. This symmetry can lead to interesting combinatorial and geometric properties.

For instance, in a cube, there are three sets of four parallel edges. Each edge on one face has a corresponding parallel edge on the opposite face. These pairs are examples of halfparallels.
