Gázcsere is the process by which gases are exchanged between an organism and its environment, or within different parts of an organism. This is a fundamental biological process essential for respiration and photosynthesis. In animals, gas exchange primarily involves the uptake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide. This occurs through specialized respiratory organs like lungs, gills, or skin. The movement of gases across these surfaces is typically driven by diffusion, moving from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. For instance, in the lungs, oxygen from inhaled air diffuses into the blood, while carbon dioxide from the blood diffuses into the air to be exhaled.
In plants, gas exchange is crucial for both respiration and photosynthesis. Plants take in carbon dioxide from
