Focus planes, or fókuszsíkok in Hungarian, are a fundamental concept in optics and photography. They represent the planes in space where light rays converge to form a sharp image of an object. When a lens focuses light, it does so at a specific distance, and this distance corresponds to a focus plane. Anything located on this plane will appear sharp in the resulting image. Objects closer to or farther from the lens than the focus plane will appear blurred.

In photography, the concept of focus planes is directly related to the depth of field. Depth of field refers to the range of distances in front of and behind the actual focus plane that still appear acceptably sharp. A shallow depth of field means only a narrow range of distances is in focus, while a large depth of field encompasses a much wider range. The aperture of the lens, the focal length, and the distance to the subject all influence the size of the depth of field and thus the extent of the focus planes.
