Frekvenciamegosztásos refers to frequency division multiplexing (FDM) in Hungarian. It is a technique used in telecommunications and signal processing to transmit multiple signals over a single communication channel. FDM works by dividing the total available bandwidth of the channel into several smaller, non-overlapping frequency bands. Each of these smaller bands is then allocated to a different signal, allowing them to travel simultaneously without interfering with each other.

The principle behind FDM is similar to how different radio stations broadcast on different frequencies. Each radio station is assigned a specific frequency, and a radio receiver can tune into a particular station by selecting its assigned frequency. In FDM systems, information is modulated onto a carrier wave at a specific frequency. When these modulated signals are combined, they occupy distinct portions of the spectrum.

At the receiving end, a demultiplexer separates the combined signal. It uses filters to isolate each individual frequency band and then demodulates the signal to recover the original information. This allows multiple users or data streams to share a common medium, such as a cable or a radio link, efficiently. FDM has been widely used in various applications, including traditional telephone networks, cable television, and early forms of wireless communication. While newer multiplexing techniques like time division multiplexing (TDM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) have become more prevalent in modern digital systems, FDM remains a fundamental concept in understanding how bandwidth can be shared.
