Fordringshaver is a term used in Danish law for a person or entity that holds a claim (fordring) against another party (the debtor). A claim may be monetary, such as a loan or unpaid invoice, or performance-based, such as the delivery of goods or completion of a service. A fordingshaver can be an individual, a company, a bank, a public authority, or any organization that is entitled to receive money or performance under a legal relationship.

In ordinary civil transactions, the fordingshaver has the right to demand fulfilment of the obligation and to pursue remedies if the debtor fails to comply. This can include sending demand letters, initiating court actions, and, where permitted, using enforcement measures to recover the amount owed or secure performance.

In insolvency or bankruptcy situations, the fordingshaver becomes a creditor in the estate. Claims must usually be proven to the bankruptcy administrator, who assesses validity and calculates distribution. Creditors are typically divided into secured and unsecured classes; secured creditors have a right to payment secured by collateral, while unsecured creditors rely on the general pool of assets. Within unsecured claims, statutory or contractual priorities may apply (for example for wages or taxes, depending on jurisdiction).

Claims can be transferred by assignment or sale, in which case the new holder becomes the fordingshaver. The concept covers both monetary claims and performance obligations, and is central to civil procedure, debt collection, and insolvency processes.
